The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), expressed that President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political turmoil that affected the state earlier this year was both timely and reassuring.
Ibas conveyed this sentiment on Saturday during the grand finale of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He noted that the President’s decisive actions had brought order back and reinforced governance within the state.
“I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Bola Tinubu, for his steadfast dedication to peace and stability in Rivers State and the larger Niger Delta region.
“His involvement in reestablishing order and governance in the state was timely, resolute, and profoundly reassuring. The President continues to exhibit a strong political commitment towards regional development, economic fairness, and national unity. We are truly appreciative,” Ibas remarked.
It should be remembered that the Niger Delta state found itself in political disarray due to a conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, resulting in chaos within the state assembly and increased tension throughout the state.
In response to this crisis, President Tinubu imposed a six-month state of emergency in March, suspending Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, while appointing Ibas to take over.
This decision generated both support and legal challenges.
According to News, Fubara and Wike reached an agreement to resolve their differences following a peace meeting with Tinubu in June, committing to collaborate towards restoring stability in Rivers State.
They were later spotted together at a public event after the reconciliation discussions.
