Former Senator of Kogi West State Dino Melaye, days after announcing he was quitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Melaye was presented with an ADC membership card at a brief ceremony in Abuja, signifying his commitment to the party before his political career. The former lawmaker known for his nationalistic stance cited party internal squabbles as one of the reasons he quit the PDP.
His defection has further complicated Nigeria’s political turmoil as the country heads towards general elections.
Former Senator of Kogi State Dino Melaye has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Leaders of the party’s Kogi State chapter formally presented Melaye with an ADC membership card at his office.
The former lawmaker announced the news in a video posted on his Facebook page on Thursday.
Kingsley Temitope, the ADC chairman in Kogi State, accompanied by the state secretary, local government chairmen, party secretaries, ward chairmen and party secretaries, presented the party membership card to Mele.
Temitope, wearing a shirt bearing the logo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said, “I presented the ADC membership card to Senator Dino Mele, who is a full member and has been contributing to the party even before the card was issued.”
Mele had already officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Mele resigned due to the failure of the PDP to save Nigeria from the “tyranny of politicians.”
