Mr Macaroni Accuses APC of Hypocrisy Over Criminal Pardons

Mr Macaroni launches scathing criticism of ruling party following president’s clemency decision

Nigerian actor and social activist Debo Adedayo, known professionally as Mr Macaroni, has publicly condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he characterizes as hypocrisy and corruption following President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to grant presidential pardons to 175 individuals.

The comedian posted his criticism on his official X account (formerly Twitter) after the release of a list of pardon beneficiaries that includes drug lords, human traffickers, and other convicted offenders. The move sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria, particularly on social media platforms.

In his statement, Mr Macaroni highlighted a stark contradiction by reposting a 2013 tweet from Segun Dada, a current special assistant to the president on social media. In that earlier post, Dada had publicly demanded protests against similar pardons granted under the previous administration.

“Every evil that the APC once condemned, they now practice and support. APC is a party filled with the most corrupt people surrounded by the worst sycophants,” Mr Macaroni wrote, adding that the situation represents “a marriage of doom and misfortune.”

The activist’s critique centered on what he views as the abandonment of values that APC members once publicly championed during their time in opposition. The contrast between the party’s past rhetoric and current actions has drawn attention from multiple observers and political commentators.

The presidential pardons, announced last week, included individuals convicted of drug trafficking, smuggling, and other serious offenses. The decision has prompted criticism not only from social media users but also from prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), both of whom have characterized the move as damaging to the rule of law.

The controversy underscores ongoing tensions surrounding executive clemency decisions and questions about consistency in governance principles.
