Prominent Nigerian disc jockey Nonso Temisan Ajufo, professionally known as DJ Big N, has raised concerns about what he describes as a significant deterioration in the quality of Afrobeats music.
The Mavin Records’ official DJ declared that the genre is currently experiencing its worst period in two decades, attributing the decline to failures across the entire music ecosystem.
“Afrobeats right now is at its worst position in the last 20 years. And everyone from musicians to music executives have a part to be blamed. The quality of music dropped,” DJ Big N stated.
The veteran DJ, who has been a central figure in the Afrobeats scene for over a decade, emphasized that the industry’s focus has shifted away from the fundamental aspects that made the genre successful globally. He stressed that product quality remains paramount in sustaining any artistic movement.
