Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has stated that Nigerians and the country’s music industry don’t give her enough accolades for her significant contributions.
During an appearance on the Off Air Show co-hosted by Gbemi and Toolz, when asked “Do you think you’ve gotten your flowers from the industry?”, Savage replied: “No. I’m sorry, I don’t.”
Her response underscored her belief that despite her success and longevity in the industry, she has not received the full recognition she deserves. The sentiment from the widely respected artist comes despite her extensive achievements and global recognition.
Savage is one of the most-awarded female artists in Africa and regarded by many as the “Queen of Afrobeats”, yet she maintains that her contributions warrant greater acknowledgment from both audiences and industry stakeholders.
This sentiment comes after she praised colleagues, including Ayra Starr, Tems, and Diamond Platnumz, for their talents and contributions to the industry, suggesting her perspective extends beyond personal grievance to broader industry recognition dynamics.
Tiwa Savage, born February 5, 1980, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress who sings in English, Nigerian Pidgin and Yoruba, with her music blending afrobeats, R&B, afropop, pop and hip-hop. Her career spans multiple decades of influence within the African music landscape.
The artist’s candid acknowledgment of feeling underappreciated reflects broader conversations within the industry about recognition, legacy, and the measurement of artistic contribution beyond commercial metrics or award counts.
