Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yomi Fabiyi has clarified his relationship with Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner Imisi, describing himself as a father figure and mentor rather than addressing speculation from social media critics.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Fabiyi explained that his public support for Imisi stemmed from a long-standing mentorship relationship that predates her reality television fame. He stated: “I am an adult who is like a father to her in the movie industry, and she was the only person I knew among all the housemates.”
Fabiyi emphasized that his support for Imisi was not motivated by personal or financial gain, but rather rooted in genuine loyalty and gratitude built over years of knowing her. He highlighted that their bond originated through his work at the Yomi Fabiyi Film Academy, where Imisi was once his student.
The actor revealed that their relationship extended beyond professional mentorship into personal support. According to Fabiyi, Imisi demonstrated her commitment to their bond by attending his housewarming celebration and ensuring the event ran smoothly. He explained: “Everything I do, she supports. For instance, when I had my housewarming, she stayed throughout and made sure the event went well.”
Fabiyi’s public celebration of Imisi’s BBNaija victory on October 5, when she won the ₦120 million grand prize, sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some questioned the nature of their relationship, prompting the actor to address speculation directly during his Saturday Beats interview.
The filmmaker described Imisi as a dedicated student and young woman with admirable work ethic. He noted that her determination and talent were evident from her early days at his film academy, making their mentorship relationship a natural progression.
Fabiyi dismissed any suggestions that his support was opportunistic or misguided. His willingness to publicly defend their connection reflects the strength of their mentor-mentee relationship and his commitment to supporting her career trajectory within Nollywood.
The actor’s clarification addresses broader conversations about age-gap relationships and mentorship dynamics within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, highlighting how genuine professional and personal bonds can be misconstrued on social media platforms.
